Working Bee – 26 January 2023
The focus was on tidying up and cleaning out the church hall, water-blasting the outside of the church building, and clearing the eastern side of the cemetery where agapanthus and other alien shrubs and unwanted trees had taken over, concealing some grave stones. See the pics of the cemetery below to see what was achieved in the latter goal! As usual, the catering team provided a magnificent morning tea which was greatly appreciated.
Coronation High Tea –
A delightful fund-raiser to mark the Coronation of King Charles 111!
9 OCTOBER 2022 – A BAPTISM AND ST FRANCIS’ DAY
9 October was a very happy day at Church! Firstly, we were delighted to witness the baptism of Florence May Hope – Welcome into our church family, Florence!
Secondly, this day was our celebration of the life and work of St Francis of Assisi. St Francis was a Catholic Friar born in 1181 or 1182 in Assisi, Italy. He founded the Franciscan Order and is the patron saint of animals, merchants and ecology. He preached that animals were as much God’s creatures as were people and as such should be protected. We all enjoyed the presence of animals, both live and in the form of stuffed toys, brought to church to be blessed.
New homes for local community
The new rental houses which were built by Advance Builders for St James on the vicarage site were completed in the second half of 2022 and are now leased and occupied. This is a great achievement, made possible through huge amounts of hard work, long hours and inspiration by the Housing Committee. Great work, team! We are all most grateful. The pictures below record some of the highlights along the way during the building process. The income is being used by St James’ to cover ongoing expenses in the maintenance and development of our church.
