St James Church provides new homes for local community

Good progress is being made on the new houses being built by Advance Builders for St James. These houses will be erected on the site of the vicarage at 128 Kerikeri Road, to rent out to the public. The income will be used by St James’ to cover ongoing expenses in the maintenance and development of our church.

The sites for the new houses are now being cleared at the vicarage – 128 Kerikeri Road.

This work has been undertaken by Brett Alexander of Rock River Contracting who has given his time and equipment at no charge to the
Church. Without this amazingly generous gift the Church would have had to spend thousands of dollars to have this work undertaken.

The houses are due to be delivered on 7 and 8 July.

The heat pumps are in, the curtains are up and clothes lines have been installed – the new houses are ready for occupation!

The two new rental houses were blessed by our Vicar, Stan, on 18 September  2022.

9 October was a very happy day at Church!

Firstly, we were delighted to witness the baptism of  Florence May Hope – Welcome into our church family, Florence!

Secondly, this day was our celebration of the life and work of St Francis of Assisi. St Francis was a Catholic Friar born in 1181 or 1182 in Assisi, Italy. He founded the Franciscan Order and is the patron saint of animals, merchants and ecology. He preached that animals were as much God’s creatures as were people and as such should be protected. We all enjoyed the presence of animals, both live and in the form of stuffed toys,  brought to church to be blessed.

Cafe Service

On 29 May 2022, we held our first ever Cafe Service at Kemp Hall. We enjoyed live music from Richard and Sue and tucked in to copious amounts of food and coffee, while Stan led us in a beautiful communion service. This was so successful that we all agreed to hold further cafe services on the fifth Sunday of all applicable months.
